I offer private hair and makeup application in your own home or on location. When working with photographers of my choice I sometimes discount my rate in studio. I also offer bridal makeup, makeup consultaions, private lessons and I can even help you select new makeup products in store or online. I accept payment in the form of cash, check (15 days prior to your scheduled date, or paypal with an additional service fee. Payment is due in full prior to or the day of your appointment. When booking with me I do sometimes require a small deposit which is not refundable but is transferable as long as you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment. As an artist growing up I loved painting, sculpture photography and many other art forms. I've studied culture, art, music, fashion, history and many other subjects that contribute to who I am as an artist. In makeup and hair, I've found my most favorite way of expressing creativity. My connection to my models/clients is at the center of my work. Watching a transformation happen to someone physically and emotional is also a great part of what I enjoy about what I do. Finally the ablity to make art three dementional art using a human as the canvas is one of the most gratifiying feelings I've ever gotten from my art. However fleeting and temporary it is. Luckily we have cameras to capture some of the beauty forever. I truly enjoy my career and aspire to be well known for my creativity and professional dedication.
I am also a licensed cosmetologist and use only professional grade products. Some of my favorite lines are, Makeup Forever, Smashbox, Too Faced, Stila, Temptu, OCC and more. Sanitation extremely important for me as well as puncuatily and reliablity.

She is constantly updating her knowledge, style and products. She is a licensed cosmetologist as well as a published makeup artist. Here are a few questions that come up frequently I've answered for you here
-Why don't you use only brand X? Its the only one I prefer!
While I use only professional grade makeup and hair products I used a wide variety of brands. From experience I have found that every good brand has its strengths and its weakness. While I pay attention to most of the ad campains that these companies run I don't buy into the the belief that one is better than all others because they have beautiful ads.
-Why do I have to pay a travel fee?
If the wedding is within 30 miles from my home base I will come to you with no fee. However beacause of the cost of gas and travel time I find it nessary to be compensated for it.
-Is airbrush really worth it? I personally LOVE the finish of airbrush and would use it exclusively if I could. Its finish is much more natural and flawless as well as the option of using silicone based waterproof makeup which is a huge deal for your big day as you don't have worry about sweat, tears and smudging. So yes!!
-When I went brand X's makeup counter they didn't do my make up the way you are.....Does that mean you don't know what your doing?
While each makeup artist has their own touch to what they do often at commerical makeup counters artists are trained to do makeup the way the company wants them to. There are many ways to get to the finished product and I like to try alot of them and have found my own personal technics as well as learned from many different sources.
-Can I come to you for my appoinments?
Yes you can, if you would prefer to come to me I would be more than happy to accomdate you and you will save on travel fees
-Does the fact that you aren't working out of a salon mean that you aren't as well trained as someone in a salon? While I do have my cosmetology license, I choose not to work out of a salon because my preference of work is mainly in makeup and styling hair, not cutting and coloring hair. That affords me the constant upkeep of knowledge and skill on styleling that alot of stylists in a salon don't get.
-Will you be able to accomodate a large wedding party? Yes! If we find that your party is larger than what I can handle on my own I will bring either another artist I trust and respect along with me or an assistant to keep your getting ready time in a reasonable amout. At no additional charge to you.

I am so, so, so happy I chose Josephine to do hair and makeup for me, my bridesmaids, and my mom. Everything turned out PERFECT, no exaggeration.
It was extremely important to me to choose a makeup artist that had a personal aesthetic that meshed well with my own but who also had a broad range of talent and product knowledge. When I found Josephine's portfolio I knew she was exactly who I was looking for.
She was personable, professional, and catered to each individual style graciously. Even under pressure when I had given her the wrong end time (cutting things an hour short!) she worked quickly but left no tress uncurled or eyelash unglued!
I have a very...intense family and she worked diligently through every interruption, laughing and talking with us the whole time. We were all extremely comfortable with her and it was just overall a very fun experience. I was so pleased with how my hair and makeup turned out and I know my mom and bridesmaids were happy as well. Of course my skin (and one of my bridesmaids, too) broke out right before the wedding but no one would ever know, it looked perfect on the day of. She even covered the keritosis polaris on my arm that I'm extremely self conscious about - I didn't worry about it all night! The airbrush makeup is definitely worth the extra money and Josephine uses great, quality products that I loved, and a lot of them if I wasn't using already, I am now!
Honestly, I think using a freelance professional makeup artist is a much more personal and valuable experience than going somewhere that turns out the same ~bridal look over an over. With Josephine you can really achieve a look that is exactly what YOU want, which is the most important part of all. Additionally, her prices are very reasonable, she comes to your location, and she is incredibly skilled; I cannot recommend her enough and look forward to working with her again!!

Josephine was fantastic! I could not say enough good things about her work and how lovely and easy to work with she was. She came to the house where bridesmaids were getting ready the morning of the wedding, which was super easy. Our updos were really great - each of the three bridesmaids got a different style, which Josephine came up with based on a few ideas we each had about how we'd like to look and details about the dresses and venues. We really looked unique and great and got lots of compliments through the night. The bride got her hair done at a salon, but seemed like she wished she'd had Josephine do it. As an additional note, my updo was so secure (but not shellacked with hairspray) that I went to sleep with it up and it STILL looked great for the brunch the next morning.
